Relations with Greece

The establishment of the Embassy in the Hellenic Republic revitalized the presence of the Sovereign Order of Malta in territories that had remained in the shadow for 500 years.

After a long period of negotiations for the establishment of diplomatic relations, on December 4, 2021, the Hellenic Parliament decided to approve the conclusion of bilateral relations with the Sovereign Order of Malta.

Ambassador Luca Rovati presented his credentials to Her Excellency Aikaterini Sakellaropoulou, President of the Hellenic Republic, on September 26, 2022, becoming the first ambassador appointed by the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta to Greece.

The current activities of the Embassy, with the assistance of all its members, mainly focus on finding the best ways to assist the vulnerable in the country, thus continuing our tradition. At the same time, it is involved in promoting the medical care provided by the Order and its cultural heritage, especially in the Dodecanese, through the renovation and reopening of the Museum dedicated to the Knights of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, located in the Palace of the Grand Masters in the historic medieval city of Rhodes.
